Introduction/UK Football Update

Hi guys! Just a little bit about me. My name is Kelsey Thomas. I’m from Paris, KY. I’ve been a huge UK fan all my life. I am a freshman at Oklahoma State University majoring in Sports Media. I am really excited to start blogging about UK football! I hope y’all will enjoy!

Coach Joker Phillips got his first commitment for the Class of 2013. Jacob Hyde, a 6’1, 317 lb DT (defensive tackle) from Clay County High School committed to the Cats last Thursday. Rated a 3 star by 247 sports, he was also ranked as the #24 DT in the country and the #6 player in the state of Kentucky. He can also play NG (nose guard). He’s made his presence known at several national combines. At the National Underclassmen Combine he was named the Strongest Lineman. He bench pressed 35 reps at 185 pounds. His 40 yard dash time was 5.69 seconds. Great commit for the Cats!

Pat Washington replaces ex-wide receiver coach Tee Martin who left for USC. Ironically, Washington was the man who recruited Martin as a player at the University of Tennessee. He coached 11 years at Tennessee. Washington most recently comes from East Carolina, where he was hired in January. He has also coached at Southern Miss, Mississippi State, Kansas State, TCU, and Baylor. He is a former Auburn quarterback and he’s thrilled to be back in the SEC.

Spring practice starts March 21. Former UK wide receiver Stevie Johnson signed a five-year, $36.25 million contract extension with the Buffalo Bills.
