NCAA Detour: Best of the NFL Week 13

The Atlanta Falcons ended Drew Brees’ NFL record touchdown streak after they picked Brees off 5 times. 5 times?!? And the New Orleans Saints wonder why they lost to the Falcons 23-13.

The Chicago Bears got beat 23-17 in OT by the Seattle Seahawks. The Bears got beat by a team at Soldier Field that is 1-5 on the road. The 24th ranked offense in the league beat the 5th ranked defense. How does this happen?

The Houston Texans beat the Tennessee Titans 24-10 and clinched a playoff berth. Hey Titans, you can’t have 6 turnovers and expect to win a game! Say it with me Ball security! Ball Security! Ball Security!

The New England Patriots beat the Miami Dolphins 23-16 to clinch the AFC East and a playoff berth. Tom Brady became the first QB to win 10 conference titles and the Dolphins realized that playing a sloppy game will pretty much lose you the game.

The Buffalo Bills beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-18. Congratulations Bills, you officially beat the worst team in the NFL! You play the Rams next and they have a better record than you. Beat them and I won’t be quite so sarcastic next time.

The Indianapolis Colts beat the Detroit Lions 35-33 in an exciting last second shootout. Despite Andrew Luck’s 3 interceptions (Seriously Lions, you couldn’t beat them with that many interceptions?), he threw the game winning TD to Donnie Avery. Andrew Luck is definitely making a case for rookie of the year.

In light of what happened on Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium, I’m going to give you the score and leave it at that. The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Carolina Panthers 27-21.

The Green Bay Packers overcame the Minnesota Vikings 23-14 in a key divisional game. Despite a huge day by Adrian Petersen who had 210 rushing yards, the Vikings just couldn’t get it done. The Packers and the Bears are tied for 1st in the NFC North while the Vikings remain 2 games behind.

The St. Louis Rams beat the San Francisco 49ers in OT with a final score of 16-13. Neither QB had a touchdown pass (say what?) and David Akers missed a 51-yard game winning field goal. I wonder if the outcome would have been different had Alex Smith been playing? I guess we’ll never know, will we Harbaugh?!?

The New York Jokes, I mean the New York Jets beat the Arizona Cardinals by 1 point for a final score of 7-6. Mark Sanchez threw 3 interceptions in the 1st half and was benched late in the third quarter and replaced by Greg McElroy. Sanchez has 13 interceptions and 12 touchdowns this season, why wasn’t he benched sooner?!? Oh the sloppy webs we weave!

The Denver Broncos clinched their division and a playoff berth and beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-23. Peyton Manning has now scored the most touchdowns in a season by a Bronco QB with 29, I find that odd but sure ok.

The Charlie Batch led Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens 23-20. This surprised most people who expected the Ravens to roll over the Steelers. The Ravens had a chance to clinch their division with a win and a Cincinnati loss, but they lost and the Bengals won so too bad for them.

The San Diego Chargers lost (again) to the Cincinnati Bengals 13-20. The Chargers now have a record of 4-8 and are second in their division. How bad is that division that a team with a 4-8 record is second?!? That’s where you want to be!

The Cleveland Browns beat the Oakland Raiders 20-17. The Browns snapped a 12 game road-losing streak; yep you read that right 12 games, when they beat the Raiders in Oakland. The Browns haven’t won a game on the road since September 18, 2011. Hey Raiders, how does it feel to be the team they broke that awful record on? My guess? Not good.

The Dallas Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-33. The Cowboys scored 21 points in the 4th quarter. How do you let that happen Philly? Another surprising event in this game is that Tony Romo broke Troy Aikman’s career franchise touchdown record. For reals? This is a perfect instance where records don’t matter if you can’t get the wins that count. Aikman has 3 Superbowl wins to his name while Romo has, let me count them, oh right NONE! Romo has just sucked for so long that he is beating great QB’s records.

The Washington Redskins skimmed by with a win over the New York Giants 17-16. There was a total of 10 points scored in the entire second half. One of the Giants’ offensive linemen, Sean Locklear, had a really bad injury after someone fell on his knee. It was gruesome to watch. I hope he’s ok.

That’s it for this week’s Best of the NFL, hope you enjoyed it!!
