What an interesting weekend in the NFL! So we discovered a few things this weekend. Chip Kelly is going to stay in Oregon and will not be the Browns’ new head coach (you can breathe now Oregon fans), Ray Lewis is retiring when the Ravens are done in the postseason, and Rex Ryan has a weird tattoo of a woman in what appears to be a Sanchez jersey (say what?!?). Interesting indeed.
RG3 was hurt pretty badly in their game against the Seahawks. Let me tell you ladies that looked awful! It looked like his knee was dislocated on a botched snap, he ran after it, tried to make a cut, and BAM! I’m betting he’ll have a long road to recovery. It might not be as bad as it looked (Redskins fans are hoping right?).
The Texans beat the Bengals 19-13 to advance to round 2 of the playoffs. This was kind of a slow, sloppy game. Andy Dalton looked off and Houston’s offense floundered a bit. The Texans’ defense was pretty solid; they only allowed 198 total net yards of offense. The Bengals’ only TD was off of an interception. There was only 1 offensive TD the whole game. The Texans will travel to New England and play the Patriots next Sunday the 13th in round 2 of the playoffs. It will be an interesting game, the last time these 2 teams played each other in New England the Texans walked away with a loss after getting beat 42-14.We’ll have to see though, anything can happen!
My prediction: Patriots over the Texans.
It was a rare day for the Colts when their offense just couldn’t get going. The Ravens are advancing to round 2 of the playoffs after they beat the Colts 24-9. The Colts didn’t get into the end zone once, instead kicking 3 field goals. It was so different from the usually composed Andrew Luck and an offense that hasn’t had much trouble scoring points. The Ravens defense did their job, this includes Ray Lewis who was hoping it wouldn’t be his last game. He has announced that he will retire whenever the Ravens are done in the playoffs. Lewis hasn’t always been my favorite guy, but he is retiring because his son is starting at the University of Miami and he wants to be a full time father. I have to commend him for that. I really wanted the Colts to win, mostly for Chuck Pagano who has had a hard year. Such is the game of football though. The Ravens travel to Denver to face the 1st seed Denver Broncos on Saturday the 12th. The Broncos have been on a serious hot streak, but we’ll see how Peyton and Company fares against a Raven’s defense that now includes Ray Lewis. The last time these 2 teams played the Ravens lost 34-17.
My prediction: Denver over the Ravens.
Green Bay is moving on to round 2 of the playoffs after they beat the Vikings 24-10. After their loss to the Vikings in week 17 I was wondering how this game would literally play out. The loss, it seems, was a one off, as the Packers had no trouble handling the Vikings. Starting Vikings QB Christian Ponder was out because of his elbow. Now I don’t know Ponder or his pain tolerance, but it seems pretty ridiculous that he was out because of his elbow. It may be a serious injury, but I would think you would do everything you could to play a game that meant so much to the future of your teams’ season. Joe Webb, the Vikings’ second string QB, started the game and had a lot of trouble. When I say a lot, I mean A TON! I now see why the guy sits on the bench- he isn’t very good. The Packers will travel to San Francisco to play Harbaugh and the 49ers. I can tell you if the Packers play Packers football I think they will beat the 49ers. The 49ers are at home though so that definitely changes the game a bit.
My prediction: Packers over the 49ers.
The last game of Wild Card Weekend was truly a wild card. You could predict how the other games were going to play out, but this one was a mystery. Seattle struggled at first and at one point were down 14-0. The Seahawks dominated the 2nd quarter, however, and went into halftime down by only 1 point. The Redskins didn’t score in the whole second and Seattle was able to score 11 in the 4th quarter. Seattle won by 10 points, final score 24-14. RG3 was seriously hurt and I think if the Redskins would have pulled off the win, he wouldn’t have been able to play the rest of the postseason. The loss of Griffin was more of a mental blow to the Redskins than anything else, Kirk Cousins is a capable QB, but it just wasn’t in the cards for the Redskins. The Seahawks displayed why they got as far as they did. They’re fighters and never gave up. Seattle travels to Atlanta to play NFC’s #1 seed. If Atlanta plays like they have been this year and not like they did against the Bucs (that was ugly), then Seattle could be in trouble. Seattle’s defense is good at getting pressure on the QB, so Matt Ryan needs to watch out. Atlanta had some key injuries in week 17 so there is no telling how that will affect them.
My Prediction: Atlanta over Seattle
