Hey ya’ll! Thanks for taking time to stop in and check out gridirongirl’s new LSU blog. I’ll be with you each week, breaking down all things Tiger football for women and girls who love the sport, or want to learn about it.
Before we get ahead of ourselves, I really want to start off our new little bond by telling you a little bit more about me, and my love… no OBSESSION… for football as a whole, but more specifically the LSU tigers. I’ve never done any blogging before, so hang with me. (I always got good grades in English and communications classes, so hopefully that helps me out!)
Alright, how did I come to love football? Well, first of all, I have 3 brothers, and mostly uncles and male cousins who dragged me to tailgates and Superbowl parties as a little girl. My older brother was (and still is) one of my biggest role models growing up. He played YAFL (Young American Football League) in Albuquerque, NM, when we were growing up, and was so passionate about it, it was hard not to love what was happening. I was 4 or 5 years old when my mom asked me, “Kymbrye Ann, which NFL team do you like?” Naturally, I chose the Jacksonville Jaguars, because the mascot was my favorite animal. About 3 years later, I learned about college ball. This was a whole lot easier to get excited about because we lived a college town, with a football team. I remember the lights in the stadium at UNM for night games, and how many people were dressed in cherry and silver, howling and screaming the school chant “Everyone’s a Lobo! Woof Woof Woof” at the top of their lungs! To a little girl, this would usually be obnoxious, however to me, this was home.
From then on, I was shoved head first into UNM and K-State football conversations with my mom’s side of the family (UNM), and my dad’s side of the family (K-State), but I never really felt connected to either team, despite my family’s love for them. It was later in my 7th year of life that I fell in love with the SEC team that, to this day, has a special chunk of my heart! My uncles spent time telling me about football, and watching it with me, however choosing LSU was something I did for myself. I was far too young to understand National Titles, rankings, and divisions, but I loved purple and had very close ties to my church where I swore to live by the golden rule, which directly correlates with LSU’s #1 rule… love purple and live gold 🙂
It took a few years before I really started to see that not only had I chosen a team that was part of the SEC (South Eastern Conference) but also a team that was, and still is, one of the highest ranked NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) football teams in the country!
For me, loving LSU started with loving the mascot, and the team’s colors, but has since grown into my obsession with rankings, and bragging rights when they plow through most the teams they play. Most of the other sports teams I love don’t always have good seasons, but LSU is one team I can count on to dominate most of their scheduled games, giving me even more pride in being a die-hard fan- such a die-hard fan, that I even have “GEAUX tigers” tattooed on my right foot!
Well I’ve enjoyed sharing a small piece of my history with you, and now that we’ve gotten to know each other a bit more, I would love to see all of you back for my next post (and all my posts after that). I look forward to sharing my football passion and breaking down all things Tiger Football- girly style of course! Until next time, GEAUX TIGAHS!
