Meet LSU's 2013 NFL Combine Participants

Welcome back gridirongirls!
I thought since I introduced you to the rookies joining LSU,  I would spend some time introducing the guys who are leaving LSU to work towards their dreams of playing in the NFL, aka LSU’s NFL combine participants.
After a certain point in their college career players can opt to go to the NFL combine to strut their stuff, and this year LSU had 13 players invited to the combine, 10 of which were juniors at LSU! Those who participated in the 2013 NFL combine in Indianapolis were:
Defensive ends Barkevious Mingo from West Monroe, a junior from LSU’s 2012 team, Sam Montgomery, also a junior,  Lavar Edwards, a senior.
Defensive tackle Bennie Logan of Coushatta, another junior!
Safety, Eric Reid, one of my personal favorite players and yet another LSU junior, Middle linebacker, Kevin Minter, who was also a junior when invited to the combine.

Tailbacks, Spencer Ware and Michael Ford of Leesville,
Cornerback Tharold Simon from Eunice, Offensive Tackle, Chris Faulk, Punter, Brad Wing (who recently experienced the birth of his first son Bentley),Center, P.J. Lonergan, who was a senior when he was invited to the 2013 combine, and lastly, junior cornerback/kick returner, Tyrann Mathieu, who was not active on the team during the 2012 season after being expelled from the program in August for drug use.

Several of these guys are expected to be top picks, including Mingo, who is expected to be a top 15 pick and Sam Montgomery, who is expected to be in the top 16-24 picks. Eric Reid and Bennie Logan are listed as possible late first round or early second round choices as well.

NFL drafting expert, Mike Detillier, listed Minter and Tyrann Mathieu as second round while Ware and Simon are more than likely going to end up going during the third round of the NFL draft. Drafting expert, Detillie,r even expects Faulk to go as high as the third round in the draft, that is if he is able to recover from the knee injury that caused him to miss out on over half of the 2012 season.  Wing and Ford are favored to go during the fifth round, while Edwards and Lonergan are expected to go late in the 7th round draft.

The combine’s  main goal is to showcase players with measurable skill in fields such as speed, strength as well as agility. While some seniors from LSU were not invited to the combine, they still were able to showcase their skills during the March 27th, 2013 Pro Day at LSU, where NFL personnel attended to determine if any of those players were capable of playing in the NFL.

This year’s draft is expected to be a great one for former LSU players as LSU is expected to break the school record of 8 Tigers drafted in a single round! That record was set way back in 1949, when LSU quarterback, Y.A. Tittle, led the way as the 6th pick of the 1st round by going to Detroit.

LSU expects as many as 15 former LSU players to get drafted. This means senior wide receiver, Russell Shepard, and senior defensive tackle, Josh Downs, who were not invited to the combine, and all 13 of those who attended the combine are expected to get drafted!

So this year, when you’re watching the NFL draft, you’ll hear the name Sam Montgomery, Eric Reid, Brad Wing or Josh Downs and recognize them from LSU.

It fills my heart with great pride seeing my LSU Tigers reaching for their dreams of playing in the NFL. These are men who have devoted great amounts of time, energy, and resources into bettering themselves at a game they have deep passion, love and respect for. Seeing them accomplish big things (even for teams in the NFL I don’t like ;].) will be, and always is, a huge honor as a fan.

So now that we’ve covered who LSU is expecting to see move into the big leagues, it’s your turn to tell me who you want your favorite NFL team to draft! Are any of these LSU players on your list of talented men you think your NFL team should draft to play for them? And, which NFL team do you love to root for as much as you love cheering for LSU?
Thanks so much for spending more time with me, I’ll see you again soon! Keep on loving purple and living gold and remember to geaux check out the NFL draft in 13 days!
GEAUX TIGERS!
