It’s 7:45am and because I’m so excited/dedicated/crazy, I’m writing before I even drink my coffee (You’re welcome). I don’t think I’ve jumped out of bed so quickly in a very long time, but I’m so glad I did. It turns out Mariota recently talking to his mother about looming sanctions wasn’t a bad sign after all. (Rookie reporter mistake).
After it’s very long investigation into the Oregon Ducks Football program, The NCAA has released it’s sanctions against Oregon and a post-season bowl ban was not one of them. What was levied was the loss of one scholarship over the next two years, three years probation, and no use of paid recruiting services for the next three years. Additionally, Chip Kelly was given an 18 month “Show Cause” penalty, which means Oregon can only host 37 official visitors instead of 50- if anything, this might hurt the most in my opinion.
Let the national debate and taunting Tweets begin, but for Duck Nation, it might as well be Christmas. The waiting is over and Oregon has avoided the hammer.
If you ask me, I think this new season will bring so many positives. With Coach Helfrich at the wheel, I think Autzen will regain some of it’s “family feel” again; and with Mariota under center, big things will continue on the field. Are you ready? I’m ready…just as soon as I grab my coffee.
