A Moment in the Mud…

Before I begin my tale, can I please have a prayer of forgiveness, and a ‘Bless Your Heart’ in advance from all of you?? Thanks.

Well, let me take you back a few minutes….

I’m researching MSU Media Days, thinking I’m starting to know my stuff, and I come across TSUN a few times, and have no clue what college they are talking about. Tennessee something?? No… Texas State?? Noo…. THE Southern University of Nnñnnnnn something?? Noo….

Well, let me take you back a few more minutes….

It’s a lovely Friday evening. The kids are in bed and my husband, David, and I are enjoying a lovely glass of Merlot, talking about the upcoming tailgating season. We’re discussing how we’re going to get the Weber grill, cooler, tables, tent etc. ready to go in the back of the Land Cruiser. I’m checking my usual Twitter feed and I see the mysterious TSUN used a couple times in regards to State…. Hmmmm (since I’m a State fan, I don’t bother with – ahemmm, Ole Miss twitter things. I promise… ‘TSUN’ never dawns on either of us). We check the schedule, and no one State plays has an acronym anywhere close to TSUN. What the heck?!? As things progress on this wonderful evening, we forget to Google the acronym, and that is that for the evening.

Let me say a couple more things. I don’t have an iPhone. I don’t have a professional (outside of the house) job where I really NEED an iPhone. (OK, Maybe I’m trying to justify my husband’s cheapness.) Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that I don’t have 8 hours a day of office boredom to sit around and Google things that jump in my mind like that. In the State interviews I’ve watched, I haven’t heard a State player say, ‘TSUN’. (However, I KNOW its an unwritten rule, well, its probably written SOMEwhere, that we don’t say ‘their’ name publicly.) By the time I wrestle the iPad away from my kids, who are also wrestling over it, I forget what I wanted the dang fingertip pleasin’ device for in the first place. So, the days go on, and the mystery still remains…..

Last. Night. – Guess what??? I’m watching YouTube videos of SEC Media Days for players and assistant coaches. The house is quiet, I’m able to concentrate for more than 5 seconds, and I remember –that I have forgotten– to look this up for over a month now.

I don’t mean to make this a blog about (That School Up North), but I guess it kinda is. I’m singing Carly Simon’s “I Bet You Think This Song Is About You” right now, FYI. 🙂 I know the past few years I’ve been focused on kids, meals, schools, not forgetting to pick up or drop off someone somewhere. All with one car, mind you. Excuses? Maybe. But to me, that School Up North is still Ole Miss, and they still have a Rebel for a mascot for God’s sake! Old Piss doesn’t work anymore?!! And what about GTHOM?!?? Do I need to start saying, GTHTSUN?!? Now I’m thinking I DO need a boring office job to catch up on the technology (like Instagram) and news like this, I’ve missed from the past few years… Jeeze, I am really shocked at myself right now. Completely let myself down.

Yikes, guys. Lots of rambling about the rival school, I know. I’ll make it up 1000fold next time. I just needed to get this off my chest so I can sleep with a clear mind. Please tell me I’m not the only one who is a little late to the game sometimes, if you get my gist??…..

About Laurie (43 Articles)
A true southern girl at heart, Laurie was raised to love football. Her years at Mississippi State really developed her passion for everything gameday: Getting primped and polished in über-cute outfits, tailgating with new and old friends, fans clanging cowbells with great exuberance while the Bulldogs play great football inside Davis Wade Stadium. Laurie is a huge fan of Coach Mullen, his wife, Megan, and the team he has built. Could this team have a Heisman candidate??… After moving to Texas and marrying a fellow football fan who graduated from UTSA, she was thrilled when UTSA announced its plan to build a football program. The Athletic Director, Mrs. Lynn Hickey, has done a phenomenal job and has a large fan following, including Laurie. Laurie has been a season ticket holder since the first season, and has loved watching the team grow. Laurie loves to be crafty at times. Hand-painted glasses for both teams fill her cabinets, team wreaths hang on her front door. Her blue and orange feathered sombrero makes it to every UTSA game, loud and proud. Laurie has a B.S. in Marketing, and a Minor in Apparel, Textiles, and Merchandising from Mississippi State University.
