This House is Calling an Upset!

This week is UTSA’s opportunity to pull off a big time upset for our young program when we face the Wildcats of Arizona in Tucson. The Roadrunners come in as 26 point underdogs, and my husband thinks Vegas has lost their mind on this one. He has also informed me he’s putting his money where his mouth is and putting a “hundo” on it! (I believe that’s some dorky street slang for $100).

Arizona’s offense under Rich Rodriguez has been very prolific the past couple of seasons, but he’s working with a new quarterback this season, and therefore relying more on the running game. The Wildcat rushing attack is led by a NFL prospect, Ka’Deem Carey, at running back. He’s going to be tough to stop, for sure, but UTSA’s run defense is their strength. Carey is going to get his yards, but the Run defense just needs to have a ‘bend but not break’ attitude, and not give up any big plays.

I’m confident the UTSA defense can hold Arizona out of the end zone enough times to allow the Roadrunner offense to do what they do best; put points on the board! This may be the most stingy defense UTSA has competed against, and quarterback Eric Soza needs to bring his A-game with him to Tucson and avoiding turning the ball over.

Overall, if the Run defense holds up against the run like they did against New Mexico, and Soza and company put 35 points on the board like they did against no. 13 ranked Oklahoma St. last week, I believe UTSA can get their first signature win on the road in Tucson. Maybe then my hubby can spend his extra “hundo” on me next weekend!!

The ‘Runners play a late game, at 9:30pm, televised on the PAC12 Network. Let’s watch together!

About Laurie (43 Articles)
A true southern girl at heart, Laurie was raised to love football. Her years at Mississippi State really developed her passion for everything gameday: Getting primped and polished in über-cute outfits, tailgating with new and old friends, fans clanging cowbells with great exuberance while the Bulldogs play great football inside Davis Wade Stadium. Laurie is a huge fan of Coach Mullen, his wife, Megan, and the team he has built. Could this team have a Heisman candidate??… After moving to Texas and marrying a fellow football fan who graduated from UTSA, she was thrilled when UTSA announced its plan to build a football program. The Athletic Director, Mrs. Lynn Hickey, has done a phenomenal job and has a large fan following, including Laurie. Laurie has been a season ticket holder since the first season, and has loved watching the team grow. Laurie loves to be crafty at times. Hand-painted glasses for both teams fill her cabinets, team wreaths hang on her front door. Her blue and orange feathered sombrero makes it to every UTSA game, loud and proud. Laurie has a B.S. in Marketing, and a Minor in Apparel, Textiles, and Merchandising from Mississippi State University.
