Mountaineer Nation has a saying we like to throw around on game day: “It’s a great day to be a Mountaineer!” I didn’t hear that very much during Saturday’s game against Maryland.
Actually, I have a confession to make: I didn’t watch the Maryland game. Our daughter was at Grandma and Grandpa’s house so my husband and I took advantage of the kid-free time to party it up a little. We scraped carpet pad residue off of the hardwood floors in the living room. Which I’m to understand was a much more pleasant experience than watching the game would have been. Also, I think we might be doing Date Night wrong.
If you’re really interested in just exactly how terribly WVU played on Saturday, you should read this article from the WV Gazette. The title, ‘As inept as we can possibly be’, followed by the byline, “Maryland hands Mountaineers worst shutout loss since 1975” should tell you everything you need to know. But if you feel like crying, go ahead and read the whole thing.
1. It’s going to be a very, very long season.
Maryland was our last non-conference opponent for this season. It’s only going to get worse from here. In fact, I think we should just go big and aim to finish at the very bottom of the Big 12. I either need to make a doctor appointment and get some Game Day Xanax, or I need to make other plans for my Saturdays. Maybe during the Oklahoma State game I’ll scrape wallpaper glue residue off of the dining room walls.
2. We did not, in fact, find our quarterback.
Nor do we appear to have an offense of any sort. I have to admit, the curiosity about Clint Trickett is killing me. WHY was he not put in at all? The game couldn’t possibly have gone any worse. Is Coach Holgorsen just being stubborn? Or is Trickett really that bad? I’ve been asking these questions all season with no response, so maybe it’s time to consult my tarot cards or the I Ching. The truth is out there!
3. Maybe it’s time to talk about a coaching change.
Is it? Seriously, tell me your thoughts on this because I’m on the fence. Leave a comment here or tweet me at @wvgridirongirl.
