Texas A&M vs. SMU – By the Numbers

The Aggies did a number on the SMU Mustangs Saturday night.  But those numbers were not just the 42-13 final score.  Here’s a little breakdown of some interesting stats!

1 – Texas A&M recovered one on-side kick in the 1st quarter, up 14-0 (that was fun!).

2 – Mike Evans had a quiet night with only 2 catches for 57 yards.

3 – There were 3 PAT’s missed (points after touchdown) by the Aggies sophomore kicker.  Hmmmm…

4 – The first 4 games of the season were home games. Aggies head to Arkansas next weekend for the first away game.

6 – The number of catches by Malcome Kennedy: (83 yards and 1 touchdown).

10 – The Aggies’ rank in the football polls.

12 – Deshazor Everett returned a fumble for 12 yards for a touchdown (with the help of Toney Hurd Jr. who caused the fumble).

18 – The game was the 18th straight sellout crowd at Kyle Field (86,542 official count and a school record).

29 – There were 29 penalties in the game.  Aggies had 13 for 114 yards and SMU had 16 for 111 yards.

40 – The Aggies have scored over 40 points in all four of their games so far this year – again, a school record.

49 – It was Coach Sumlin’s 49th win as a head coach.

71 – RB Ben Malena ran for 71 yards with 2 touchdowns.

90 – Every game,  a different defensive player has been wearing the #90 jersey in memory of Polo Manukainiu, who was killed over the summer in a tragic car accident.  DE Julien Obioha wore the jersey against the Mustangs.

346 – Johnny Manziel’s total yards for the game: 244 passing and 102 rushing (3 touchdowns).

*6 – The number of players who were nice enough to take some time after the game to take pictures with my 6 year old daughter – who was THRILLED! (And has since made me print the pictures out so she can show them off to her friends at school.)  Thanks Ben Malena, Toney Hurd Jr, Nehemiah Hicks, Julien Obioha, Ivan Robinson and Jake Matthews!
