Somber Days for Dak Prescott

What a roller coaster of a season it has been for Dak Prescott. He became our favorite quarterback only after Tyler Russell had to sit out three games from a concussion. He has perfected the hat-trick plays. He has been compared to Tim Tebow multiple times. He has also inspired Twitter fans to come up with some very creative hashtags using his name.

The downward end of the roller coaster is his throwing interceptions and causing turnovers, leading to a game loss. He also seems to have an enemy on campus, as another student whom he did not know, randomly and unexpectedly kicked him in the shin and ran off.

On a sad note, this past Sunday, Dak’s mother passed away. She was only 52, but had battled a lengthy, hard fight with colon cancer, and was going through chemotherapy. Dak went home to Louisiana Sunday evening to be with family. He has permission to stay as long as needed.

Coach Dan Mullen commented on the situation, saying: “The Mississippi State football family is completely saddened by the passing of Dak Prescott’s mom, Peggy. They shared an extraordinary mother-son relationship. We know Dak will carry on her great strength and kindness. Please pray for Dak and his family as they go through this difficult time. We also kindly ask that you please respect their privacy.”

Mississippi State plays Texas A&M this coming Saturday, in College Station. At this time no one knows whether or not Dak will be playing with the team–of course it is perfectly understandable for him to miss a game with these unfortunate circumstances.

Fans of Prescott are encouraged to leave notes on the “Huddle Up 4 Cancer” Facebook page, which she ironically inspired someone to start.

About Laurie (43 Articles)
A true southern girl at heart, Laurie was raised to love football. Her years at Mississippi State really developed her passion for everything gameday: Getting primped and polished in über-cute outfits, tailgating with new and old friends, fans clanging cowbells with great exuberance while the Bulldogs play great football inside Davis Wade Stadium. Laurie is a huge fan of Coach Mullen, his wife, Megan, and the team he has built. Could this team have a Heisman candidate??… After moving to Texas and marrying a fellow football fan who graduated from UTSA, she was thrilled when UTSA announced its plan to build a football program. The Athletic Director, Mrs. Lynn Hickey, has done a phenomenal job and has a large fan following, including Laurie. Laurie has been a season ticket holder since the first season, and has loved watching the team grow. Laurie loves to be crafty at times. Hand-painted glasses for both teams fill her cabinets, team wreaths hang on her front door. Her blue and orange feathered sombrero makes it to every UTSA game, loud and proud. Laurie has a B.S. in Marketing, and a Minor in Apparel, Textiles, and Merchandising from Mississippi State University.
