I'll Have The Bloomin' Onion, Outback Bowl Style.

At the end of the season, LSU was given the honor of playing in the 2014 Outback Bowl against the Iowa Hawkeyes. However , fans, coaches and players alike were shocked and saddened when LSU’s quarterback, Zach Mettenberger, tore his ACL in the last regular season game against Arkansas. The Mad Hatter was faced with a tough decision and did what he could with what was available by putting true freshman Anthony Jennings on the field in the bowl game.

Jennings showed his inexperience on the field in many plays and his poor accuracy and stress in the pocket.
We will need to see a vast improvement from Jennings over the spring and summer if LSU hopes to remain an SEC powerhouse,  But the kid did what he could under the circumstances, and ultimately led the Tigers to victory against Iowa.

Aside from Anthony’s struggles on field, there were plenty of aspects of the game that gave us great confidence in our team and an even deeper love than ever before. For instance, Jeremy Hill’s rockstar performance. Hill scored 2 of the 3 touchdowns in the game and gave Miles even further reason to have kept him on the roster, despite his off season woes.  Miles put his job on the line to keep Jeremy around but Jeremy has reminded us of his worth ten times over. Sadly the game against Iowa on January 1st may just be the last time we see J. Hill in a Tigers uniform as he’s predicted to enter the 2014 NFL draft. Who can blame him? Talent like his is evidence of a bright future and any team smart enough to snatch him up (hopefully the Jaguars). Hill’s ability to continue running through several attempted tackles and stumble forward to gain yards is one skill we will miss incredibly in upcoming seasons. Jeremy was also the first LSU player to reach 200 yards in a single game since 2004 when Alley Broussard ran 250 against Ole Miss.

It has truly been a recording breaking season for the tigers. Odell Beckham had his shining moments as well. His one handed catch from a poorly thrown pass from Jennings is just one of many absurd and outstanding catches the wideout has made during his time at LSU. watch the clip of his catch here:

Players like these are the very reason LSU has remained a top contender for many seasons and is witnessing yet another successful and fulfilling season.

As always love purple and live gold, Happy New Years Tigahs. :]
