One day ago (2/27/2014) it was confirmed that LSU is hiring Bradley Dale Peveto, former special teams coordinator and safeties coach for the Kentucky Wildcats and assistant under Les Miles from 2005-08. Reports say that Peveto is more than excited to reunite with Coach Miles and considers LSU to be “The best college football job in the country.” Peveto went on to say how great it will be to call LSU home again, and how much respect he has for Miles, the school, the team, staff, city, and state.
The first report of LSU picking up Coach Peveto came to light just a few weeks ago. Since then it has been confirmed that he accepted the job offer and will maintain an assistant coaching position as well as some defensive coaching responsibilities. The exact definition of his job will be fine tuned later on, but as of now it is very clear he will play a key role in the Tigers’ future.
The position Peveto will be filling was left wide open when the Tigers’ special teams coach, Thomas McGaughey, left LSU to work as a special teams coordinator for the New York Jets NFL team. McGaughey was around for three years at LSU, coming to the Tigers from the New York Giants.
Peveto worked with linebackers in his first stint at LSU, then worked his way up from 2007-08 as a co-defensive coordinator where he worked closely with Doug Mallory. A head coaching job at Northwestern State made itself available and took Peveto away from the Tigers, and Miles. However his first season there was anything but successful with an 0-11 record, 14-30 overall during his time as head coach. In 2012 Peveto led Northwestern State to a 4-7 season and lost his job. That’s when he found himself slipping into the grasp of Kentucky.
Peveto played defensive back during his college days and had many other coaching and staff experiences before coming to LSU originally. However lengthy his resume, or list of failed seasons, we are happy to welcome him home and look forward to his presence with the team once again. If anyone knows Coach Miles and his Mad Hatter ways it’s Peveto, who we can only hope will keep a close eye on our crazy coach this upcoming year… or maybe we hope he encourages Miles to get crazier… I’m not sure. Whatever leads to a better season, that’s all we want!!
So keep your eyes peeled for Peveto on the sidelines wearing purple and geauxld, screaming alongside Miles while the Tigers play ball.
