Its football time ya’ll!

Finally we are  just 3 days away from the first College Football game of the season! And more importantly, that game will showcase the Texas Aggies!

The game will be broadcast on the new SEC Network Thursday Aug 28th.

The Aggies will enter the game ranked #21 in the AP poll and will facing the #9 South Carolina Gamecocks.

We are looking forward to the game for many reasons – beyond the obvious one – the simple fact that FOOTBALL IS BACK!

Here are a few reasons to get even more excited!

1) New QB, Kenny Hill has been named the starter of the game, but true freshman Kyle Allen has made the competition between the two a tight race. I personally can‘t wait to watch and see how this plays out throughout the fall and I am betting we see good things from both guys. I have met each one on separate occasions with my kids and both have been extremely gracious with taking time to talk to the littles.

2) Returning  just 11 starters (5 on offense, 6 on defense). That means there will be ‘new’ names on the field. A lot who have playing experience from last year and a good handful who will see their first college game in Columbia. A few names to listen for: Ricky Seals Jones, Speedy Noil, Myles Garrett, Armani Watts and Zaycoven Henderson.

* Speaking of Zaycoven Henderson – if you ever get a chance to meet this guy, he is SO SO great with the little Aggie fans!

3) Wide Receiver crew. Seriously – have you seen them?! They are going to do some major damage on the field this year. They will be FUN to watch. *And I hear that our 6’6” tight end is going to get more play calls – yay for Cameron Clear!

4) Running backs. Tra Carson, Trey Williams and Brandon Williams. 3 very solid and very talented guys, and each bring just a little something different to the game.   I am REALLY hoping they all get a lot more action this year than last year. There was more than a bit of frustration in the lack of a running game last year.

5) Defense. Aggie fans everywhere are waiting the return of the ‘Wrecking Crew’ – could this be the year? Senior Deshazor Everett is going to do his part to get them there. The team lost quite a few members so there will be a lot of new faces. “Youth” was the story last year. Looking at the depth chart, I would say “youth” is going to be an issue again this year since there is 16 Freshmen/Sophomores listed.  We are all anxious to see how things play out on this side of the ball.

6) I’d mention the new and improved Kyle Field – but since it’s an away game – I will save all that gloriousness for the next week!

The countdown to College Football is ON. We have all survived another off-season! Bring on the tailgates, the adult beverages and the BBQ. It is football time! It’s SEC football time!
