TCU in the Top 4 of CFP is Like Putting Lipstick on a Frog

What’s all the fuss about?

Last week Alabama was ranked number five in the College Football Playoff Rankings and that was not a bad thing.  This week they are ranked number five again.  They did not move up because new comer TCU entered the top four, and Auburn lost to Texas A&M and that dropped them down to number nine.

Tonight’s announcement has fans asking “didn’t Alabama just get one heck of a win over LSU?  Why are they still not ranked in the top four?”  The answer:  Yes they did win, however, we have to admit, the win almost didn’t happen at all.  It was a close game and with Oregon and TCU beating their opponents by 20+/- points, I can almost see the reasoning.

The bigger story is how did TCU even get in the top four in the first place AND how did one loss Oregon jump ahead of an unbeaten Florida State?

HOWEVER…let’s get real.  Could a team like TCU even hang with a team like Alabama, Oregon or Mississippi State?  Wouldn’t bad boy Jameis Winston from Florida State make mincemeat out of that tiny little team from Fort Worth, Texas?  I think so.  However, because I am an Alabama fan, apparently I am ‘obnoxious, and my ‘Bama arrogance’ won’t let me see that TCU could beat a team like Alabama,” as seen in this tweet below:

Actually Mike, I’m just a realist.

I see this as being one of those times where Alabama not being ranked high is a good thing.  It reminds me of the Dale Earnhardt days in NASCAR.  Dale would just sit at the back of the pack for most of the race, sneaking up ever so quietly round after round on the track.  And then, when the final laps of the race started to get under way he would rise to the front out of nowhere and win a race.  Now, that is a strategic winning scheme folks.  That is what got him the nickname the “Eliminator”.  And so long as nobody is looking, Alabama can do the same thing.  All they have to do is keep winning, week after week.

So at the end of the day, all Alabama fans need to do is bide their time and be patient.  Because you can put lipstick on a TCU horned frog, but it’s still a frog.
