3 Things the Huskies Need to Beat Utah State

The Huskies bounced back week 2 in spectacular fashion after losing to Boise State in Week 1. Shutting Sac State out was exactly what this Husky team needed to gain confidence and momentum for the season. The Huskies play Utah State at home on Saturday and they need to do these 3 things in order to win:

  1. Jake Browning needs to continue to play like he did against Sacramento State. With a 70.8 completion percentage, 326 passing yards (a UW true freshman record), and 2 TD passes, Jake showed everyone just why Chris Petersen decided to start a true freshman this year.
  2. More of that awesome rushing attack we saw in Sacramento. UW had 218 yards rushing yards with 5 rushing TDs. It won’t necessarily be Myles Gaskin on Saturday with a majority of the yards, but as long as UW can keep that running game going with their talented RB roster, they have a good chance at a win on Saturday.
  3. Finally, the Huskies need to contain Utah State QB Chuckie Keeton. He’s mobile and gutsy and UW needs to make sure he doesn’t run all over them. If they can keep him contained in the pocket and make him throw the ball, they have a better chance at controlling Utah State’s offense. It won’t be easy though; Keeton needs just one more career TD pass to break the current Utah State record. Containing him in the pocket doesn’t solve all of the defense’s worries in relation to the QB, but it will help.

You can catch the game on the PAC-12 Network at 2 pm PST. Go Huskies!
