Just as expected, Saturday’s game was not a difficult one for the Georgia squad, but one with several mild-stones.
Head coach Mark Richt collected his 140th win, tying Wally Butts for the most wins in school history. Nick Chubb completed his 12th consecutive game with 100-plus yards, putting him in the company of Hershel Walker. The overall environment might have been rainy but nothing was going to downplay Georgia’s enthusiasm.
The Georgia Bulldogs (4-0) dominated the Southern University Jaguars (2-2) holding the Jaguars to a mere touchdown, while the Bulldogs went on an explosive offensive performance. The Dawgs did get off to a slower offensive start in the first half going into the locker room 20-6. One things for sure, whatever Coach Richt said to his team sat well with them going into the second half.
Georgia diminished any ideas of another score by Southern. Chubb took two to the end zone and Sony Micheal took a long run down field- while shaking off a Southern player. Finally, Malcolm Mitchell completed the drill with a 23- yard touchdown pass from Greyson Lambert.
Despite the high scoring game, there were some serious errors. Georgia will need to tighten up their tackling and defense in preparation for Alabama this upcoming weekend. They held Southern University to 6 but the skill level will be much different next week. Georgia’s intensity level will have to be at an all-time high from minute one.
With all the accomplishments gained by Georgia, the Southern University sideline faced more than a loss on the way back to Louisiana. Unfortunately, Southern wide receiver sustained a spinal cord injury in the third quarter.
Thoughts and well wishes go out to Southern and Devon Gales during this time.
