With recent success over the past decade including, a Heisman Trophy winner, several top bowl victories and two National Championship appearances, one might think Oregon would top the recruiting rankings. Not so fast.
Though this year’s recruiting class boasts a number of star recruits, Oregon finished National Signing Day at 28th nationally- not great, especially considering the program’s aforementioned success. That being said, rankings are just that. Rankings. Opinions, if you will. All that matters is how things play out on the gridiron- a point Oregon Coach Helfrich made clear today while speaking to the media.
“If you compare us and Stanford since about 2008, we’ve won the most on the field, we’ve had consistently lower recruiting rankings than a couple other teams, won more on the field and sent more to the NFL. That’s probably the better measure.”
So, as fun as it is to follow all that unfolds in the recruiting world, Ducks fans shouldn’t be too concerned about the rankings hype. What really matters, is that the right guys, for Oregon, have found their home and are ready to make it count . . .on the field.
