The NFL season has officially begun! Can I get an AMEN?! Here are 3 keys to watch for in tomorrow’s game:
- QB Trevor Siemian, the Broncos’ second year, is the first key to watch. He was named the starter for tonight’s Super Bowl 50 rematch. He beat out Mark Sanchez (not that hard to do) and rookie QB Paxton Lynch (whom everybody assumed would start this year). He was the 250th pick of the 2015 draft out of Northwestern. It will be interesting to see how he handles the pressure and excitement of his first official NFL start.
- Defense! This will be the real key to tonight’s game. It was the key in the Super Bowl as well. As much as most people loved watching Manning win a Super Bowl in his last NFL game, it was Denver’s defense that clinched that championship. Most of Denver’s defensive players are back and they’re hungry to repeat that championship win. The Panthers defense isn’t anything to sneeze at, but they are minus corner Josh Norman who was a solid defensive player of the year candidate. Look for them, most notably 2012 Defensive Rookie of the Year, LB Luke Kuechly, who was really broken up over the loss, to try to claim some revenge.
- Cam Newton was under a lot of scrutiny as to how he handled losing the Super Bowl. His cocky attitude rubbed a lot of people the wrong way and when he reacted the way he did to losing, people thought his attitude should get an overhaul; he was called a sore loser among other things. It’ll be interesting to see if the loss in February taught him anything and how much growth Newton has had this offseason in regards to mechanics, conditioning, an personally.
It’ll be a great game tonight! You can catch the game on NBC at 5:30 Pacific/8:30 Eastern.
